“Is This Idea For a New Kind of Porn Crazy Weird or Kind of Brilliant?” / Glamour Magazine

“We’ve discussed the subject enough that I know some of you are cool with watching a little porn, particularly with your guy to spice things up. But I think we all know that a lot of things about porn—the grooming habits, the insta-orgasms, the ahem, size demographic—probably aren’t that realistic for real life.

And via the New York Times, one woman who noticed that young men seemed to be getting their go-to moves from porn flicks decided to take action to change what she calls the “default sex educator.” Cindy Gallop unveiled a website, MakeLoveNotPorn.com, which compared the world of porn to sex in the real world. She’s now taking it even further with MakeLoveNotPorn.tv, a site that’s still in beta but is intended to be a sort of YouTube for sex. It consists of videos uploaded by real people having “nonperformance-like sex.” Contributors pay $5 to post a video and earn 50% of the proceeds raised from users, who pay $5 to watch.

While I’m all about having honest, realistic expectations for sex (Gallop has a valid point that some people seem to get their only direction as to how they should be having sex from porn, which is crazy because porn isn’t exactly accurate as to how most average folks are knocking boots), this whole concept is making me think too many scattered thoughts to know what I really think. Is this like the porn equivalent of what street style photographers and bloggers have done to make fashion for the people? Or what how-to videos have done for my ability to style my own hair? Is it a genius get rich quick scheme à la that one movie where Seth Rogen and Elizabeth Banks made their own porn? Or is this an inevitable total disaster where your next-door neighbor might end up an internet sensation by starring in a homemade porn video and you’ll never be able to be able to look him in the eye again? Gahhh.

Is this idea too crazy for words or kind of a good idea to learn some new, but realistic, sex moves? Would you ever sign up to watch? Would you EVER be a contributor? (OMG, I would die.)”
